Warehouses. Apartments. “Industrial haze.” For as far as the eye can see. Not much of a view looking West, except for the Bay Bridge connecting Kanagawa and Yokohama. At night, the tops of the towers are lit with blue light, and disappear into the sky. A glass-enclosed Sky Walk stretches from this end to the Sky Lounge built at the tower. There was a time when Yokohama was more famous in America than Tokyo. The bronze is of Kimi (of the old song “Akai Kutsu”), a girl adopted by American missionaries, then left in an orphange to die alone when she contracted tuberculosis.
