It’s not far at all by train to Yokohama. I walked out of Ishikwacho Station and down the steps into fashionable Motomachi along one of the coldest streets I’ve ever walked. Right beside a canal, sheltered under a freeway, where little houseboats were stuck between bridges forever. I came to see the Doll Museum (I found it instantly), the Kite Museum (an officer at a koban drew a map for me) and the Tin Toy Museum (hidden in a house down a lane on Yamate Hill). I marveled at these trees and the brushed metal fence that was built around them, measured- and-cut to avoid disturbing them. It was considerateto cobble the sidewalk around them, too. The picture shows about half of the two-lane roadway to the top of Yamate Hill.
