All the big train stations have two faces. If you enter from one side, don’t expect to recognize the place if you approach from the other side. This made for several amusing late night walks, bypassing the unfamiliar sides of stations as I tried to get my bearings. On my second trip, I entered stations and looked for names. This is the the east entrance to Tokyo Station. “The second front,” facing Kyobashi and Nihombashi. It’s twelve stories tall, and about twice this wide. Consider that Tokyo Station sees 3000 trains every day. Five times as many travelers pass through here daily than crowd Grand Central Station in NYC. And this is not the busiest station in Tokyo. That’s Shinjuku. It’s impossible to travel by train across Japan without passing through here. It’s called Tokyo Central Station for a reason.
